The opening line of Dante’s Divina Commedia (Nel Mezzo del cammin di nostra vita … In the middle of the road of our life) perfectly captures the moment when I first arrived in Italy in the late 70s. I stepped off the plane into an exotic world I knew only from my high school and college Latin classes. I was sure I had been there before, but it could only have been in another life. Everything, from the perfect crema on the espresso to the divine impossibility of Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne, seemed made to bring pleasure to Pietro. With my beautiful Italian wife, I began the journey into the second half of my life. If the Mediterranean world isn’t heaven on Earth, I’m ready for suggestions. I came, I saw, I stayed. I hope you will enjoy as much as I the places presented in PietroItalia.
